Specialist Mathematics Workshop on Recursion

The students investigated the concept, nature and use of recursion, through a real-world problem. They investigated the effect that different genes have on a tree's final shape.

Professor Warren Lawrance speaks to the Chemistry students

Yesterday the SMAF Chemistry students were lucky enough to have Professor Warren Lawrance, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, present to them on his field of research: Atomic Spectroscopy.

Spectroscopy investigates how matter, light and the universe behave.

He told an interesting story of how 100 years ago there was debate raging as to whether atoms and molecules even existed, but how their discovery caused a scientific revolution.

After one of his images appeared on the cover of The Journal of Chemical Physics, Warren was asked to exhibit his images in the SALA Festival of 2012.

He sold a number of his images - so Warren is now an artist as well as a scientist!

How fast is my Nerf Gun?
A momentum investigation

The Physics students used a linear motion air track to find out the initial velocity of a projectile coming out of a Nerf Gun.

Colin Grace, the tutor from Wirreanda, came in to work with the SMAF students
