This week the students rotated through a series of different Analytical Chemistry practicals: Column Chromatography, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
The practicals were run by Anthony, Naomi and Zoe, Ian Kershaw (Aberfoyle Park High School Tutor) and Lily Ellis-Gibbings (Science Communication Officer from the Faculty of Science and Engineering).
Lily showing how the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer works
Naomi showing students how an old gas chromatographer works
Clayton, Senior Leader from Christies Beach High School with Naomi.
Ian showing students how they will use column chromatography to separate a polar compound from an organic compound in a glowstick
Anthony explaining how the UV Visible Spectroscopy can be used to analyse olive oil.
Students using chromatography to separate different dyes in Kool-aid.
