Chemistry Guest Speaker: Dr Taryn March

Dr March spoke about her work with protein synthesis and how she is developing new and creative techniques to isolate these molecules.
She showed that a career in science can be fulfilling and exciting!

Specialist Maths Guest Speaker: Amelia Gontar
20 July
Amelia is currently completing Honours in the field of pure mathematics.
She talked about her undergraduate studies and how maths at university was easier in some ways than the Year 12 Specialist Maths course that she completed in 2008 (where she often would complain about the subject for its difficulties and challenges). But after persevering, she found that Specialist Maths can lead to many different study and career pathways. Amelia discussed how mathematicians can go through periods of self doubt in terms of their own mathematical abilities, but that persistence and seeking help help from others is the key to success.
And finally she talked about the pure joy and elation that can come from developing and finding mathematical proofs.
